Jeanne and I would like to thank the organizers, players and sponsors for honoring Taylor with the Taylor Cup tournament. Taylor enjoyed many sports including soccer and was always active, so it is nice to see her legacy carried on in this way. Good luck to all the players! Ganbapee!

Thank you for inviting me to such a meaningful tournament. As a football player, I have always thought about how I might use football as a platform to help someone. I am also deeply honored to have this opportunity to learn about Miyagi's culture and history. I would like to thank the committee members for all their efforts. Let's make it a wonderful day together!

I am a graduate of Tokiwagi Gakuen, and I experienced the disaster in the year I enrolled. At 15, I could do nothing but grieve, and I clearly remember how frustrating that felt. Amid the terror of a natural disaster beyond our control, I was touched by so many people's kindness, and I strongly felt that I wanted to repay it someday. Now, after all this time, having been given the chance to contribute something through football like this, I am deeply grateful I kept playing. I sincerely thank everyone who organizes this tournament.

I am very happy to be taking part in the Taylor Anderson Cup this time. Just after graduating from Seiwa Gakuen High School and moving to Saitama, the disaster struck, and I still clearly remember feeling an emotion I couldn't put into words. The words "Live your dream" on Taylor's memorial gave me great courage, and I decided to take part, hoping to be of even a little help. I look forward to playing alongside players who each carry their own feelings toward the disaster-affected area, as well as foreign players visiting for the first time.

To pursue my dream of becoming a football player, I enrolled at JFA Academy Fukushima during junior high and high school. It was a time when the academy had temporarily relocated to Shizuoka because of the disaster, but the people of Fukushima gave us generous support, allowing me to spend a meaningful time there. I hope that, in turn, I can show those very people my play and become someone who gives them even a little dream and hope. I am grateful to everyone involved for this precious opportunity, and I want to enjoy it!

Twelve years have passed since the 2011 disaster. Through a fortunate connection, I am taking part in the Taylor Anderson Cup this time! I am grateful to everyone involved for their efforts in making this tournament happen. I want to enjoy football and play with all my strength, never forgetting my gratitude, and make it a day that brings many smiles and energy to those who come to watch. I also hope this becomes a chance for people to take interest in the growth of women's football and football overseas! I'm really looking forward to it!

As a student, I had the chance to play football with children in Kesennuma, and I learned that the number of football players — and the environments to play in — were declining. At the time, all I could do was share the joy of football, but I hope the Taylor Anderson Cup can be a chance for people to discover women's football and want to keep playing. I am grateful for this connection, and I will give it my all!!

Through a fortunate connection, I am taking part in the Taylor Anderson Cup this time — I'm Moe Inoue. Last year, I played here in Onagawa as a member of Waseda University's women's football club. Beyond the match itself, I got to experience Onagawa's history and culture, and it became a town I truly love!"From Onagawa to the World" To help make Onagawa a place connected to the world, I will play my hardest and do my best to captivate everyone! Thank you for your support!

I am very happy to have this precious opportunity to take part. Because of the disaster, I was unable to spend my junior high and high school years in Fukushima, but thanks to the cooperation and support of those around me, I was able to live comfortably in Shizuoka.
I feel that I am still able to continue playing the football I love thanks to everyone around me. There isn't much I can do, but I would be happy if watching me play brings even a little joy and energy to people. I look forward to meeting everyone on the day.

Having played for Rayo Vallecano and Real Betis, I am now in Mexico, and I am deeply honored to have this opportunity to play alongside Japanese players in Onagawa. [EN] I am also proud to be able to contribute to society through football. I believe that everyone grows by helping one another. Especially at times like now, amid disasters happening around the world, I think it's important to try to help others in whatever way we can. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the committee members for their efforts in holding this event. See you in Japan!

TEPCO Women's Football Club Mareeze (Fukushima)

I am deeply grateful for the chance to take part in the Taylor Anderson Cup as head coach this time. I was affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 while belonging to TEPCO Women's Football Club Mariーゼ of the Nadeshiko League. The team's activities were suspended almost immediately, and the everyday life I had taken for granted was stripped away in an instant — I will never forget how frustrated and sad that made me feel. The following year, Vegalta Sendai Ladies was formed, and as a coach here in Miyagi, I received tremendous strength from so many people to keep moving forward. Through this match, I hope to leave a lasting impression on everyone who comes — the sight of women footballers giving their all, never giving up until the very end. I hope this tournament will contribute to the future growth of women's football, the growth of the WE League, and vitality for the disaster-affected areas. I want to fully enjoy the match together with the players.

Twelve years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake struck on March 11, 2011.
This disaster took many precious lives and everyday routines, and I believe it still leaves deep scars on people's hearts and on the region. I myself was in Miyagi, and I still clearly remember the situation at the time of the disaster. More than ten years have passed since the disaster, yet there are still areas where recovery has not fully progressed. Holding strongly to the belief that the disaster must not be forgotten, I am grateful for the chance to take part in an activity like this. I hope that by continuing activities like this, we can help more people learn about the disaster and contribute, even a little, to recovery.

We want to express our gratitude for the chance to play in such a precious match.

We at Mynavi Sendai Ladies are also among those who have continued to face the reality of the Great East Japan Earthquake.  We believe we need to express our gratitude for being able to play football through our performance on the pitch.  First and foremost, we want to enjoy football and play with everything we have toward our dreams and goals. We also want to convey that joy to those watching, and become players who, like those in the WE League, can give others a dream.
We hope this will, in turn, become a catalyst for the growth of women's football.

The Day Before the Match

The day before the match, we visited Ishinomaki's Memorial Park and the disaster relics of Kadonowaki Elementary School.

Match Day

Saturday, June 17, 2023. Clear skies. Kickoff at 1:00 PM.

We held the women's football friendly match "Team Taylor vs. Mynavi Sendai Ladies Youth" at WACK Onagawa Stadium in Onagawa Town, in memory of Taylor Anderson, an American Assistant Language Teacher in Ishinomaki, Miyagi, who lost her life at age 24 in the Great East Japan Earthquake twelve years earlier.
The venue, Onagawa Town in Miyagi Prefecture, suffered great damage in the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.
Among the disaster-affected municipalities, it had one of the highest damage rates; its population of about 10,000 has now fallen to around 6,300.
The town has been actively pursuing measures to increase its daytime visitor population, and Onagawa Stadium was completed a year before this match.
Both sides of the road leading to the venue were decorated with zinnias by Hanatomo, a flower shop at Seapal-Pier near Onagawa Station.
They were provided as seedlings so that visitors could take them home. The flowers' meanings are "bond," "thinking of a distant friend," and "an unchanging heart."

We think of Ms. Taylor and all those who have passed on.  Before the opening ceremony and at halftime, Sakura Baton Club Miyagi gave an adorable and stunning performance. Operations were assisted by members of the "Kakehashi Project" from Sendai University Meisei High School's football club.  As a token of thanks, we prepared soap potpourri from Sanriku Soap Studio KURIYA and keychains from Onagawa Factory for everyone.
